Webquest Reflection

I guess we were supposed to reflect on our webquest too... so here it goes..

I liked using zunal.com. It really helped me with organizing and producing my webquest, it gave good tips and helped me know what I needed for each part. My webquest helps students realize that differences are what makes us who we are and that we all bring variety to society. It's a good thing. If I had more time or energy, I'd invite people from diverse cultures talk to them over a podcast or online interview. I'd also put multicultural interactive sites for my kids on my webquest too (unfortunately, they either don't exist or are super hard to find). The planning sheet helps to organize your ideas, but it didn't really help me since I hadn't figured out what I wanted to do with my topic just yet. The peer evaluation helps with the improvement process. You get to know how others see your page and think of what you created.

I learned that webquests take a lot of time and energy to create. Once you have all of your resources, know what and how you're going to present it, then it's easy to put together online. The hard part is planning everything out to the last detail--grading, process, resources, etc. But I do think that webquests are a really good idea for students to participate in. They can interact with information better than if they used only books from the school's library.

So we learned a lot about digital photography today. We took lots of photos and then uploaded them in different applications and WHAMMO it's here.

Digital photography can be used to show student's various things for various subjects to help them gain knowledge about what we're trying to teach them as teachers. It can show them what the world looks like. There's numerous things that have yet to be explored around the world. What a better way to bring the world to your students through digital photos.

....The bottom triangle is a small doorstop in the men's bathroom. It is the coolest picture. I love it!

Web 2.0 Applications

Today we learned about interactive websites... web 2.0, vs 1.0 where you can't interact with the page (ex: wikipedia, email). Some websites are helpful when teaching students interactively and some are not. It was a little tricky to fin websites that benefited my kids and helped them learn what I wanted them to. Anyways I found two different websites to use for my teaching plans:
The first one is cool math 4 kids.

http://www.coolmath4kids.com/0-arithmetic-help-lessons-practice.html

3rd Grade: Standard 1: value concepts, base ten numeration, simple fractions and operations for whole numbers. Objective 3: model problems using addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
I can use this interactive website to help teach how multiplication and division work. Along with various other categories in math. It helps teach kids all the way up to pre-calc. There's even math games they can play for review.

The second one is Bill Nye the Science Guy.

http://www.billnye.com/

Any grade. I can use Bill Nye to help explain various science concepts to my students. Space, weather, earth plate tectonics, etc. I can give a listen and then they could watch Bill Nye to further emphasize what I'm teaching them.
